Web Conferencing Lab

1.      The web conferencing sites I explored were:

DimDim which is now Salesforce, there is no software to download, but they are not accepting new registrations.

Vyew The biggest downfall is it advertises with ads and will become annoying. It is free!

Mslive offers a 30 day free trial. It seems similar to Adobe and easy to use but there is a monthly fee. The site does offer a tutorial which explains their product better then the other sites.

2. Group 4 (Kit and I) chose to go with wiziq, we found it to be similar to adobe that we use in class.

3. As a group we met, shared our screens, chatted, used the whiteboard, and explored some of the features. We both enjoyed using wiziq.

4. Kit arranged the first meeting she had her camera set up everything worked smoothly.
Our second meeting my computer would crash every time I plugged the camera in. After the second time we decided to not use the camera’s.

I feel video conferencing will be a great addition to a classroom. As I dig into my new adventure next year with my Engineering classes I will be using this tool with my students to communicate our ideas with schools around the world. I think the whiteboard is great for English classes to use as a checking tool. Letting other student contribute to each others work and learn in real-time from one another.

  1. Sharlene, you've done a great job looking at the three different tools. Were there other features available in the WizIQ program which you didn't mention? ~ Carolyn
